Peace and quiet

Dear Paige,

You’ve found a lovely spot to read. I especially like your tree with all those twiggy-branches sticking out of the trunk. It reminds me of the trees in front of my house. Also, your crouching green bush is endearing. It looks as if the bush is leaning over to read your book with you.

When I first started writing, I also struggled with writing longer pieces. I could never get past 1,000 words, which is the usual word count for a picture book. But, after lots of attempts, I finally broke the 1,000 word mark.

Here’s the thing. Sometimes writing a good story in 1,000 words or lessĀ  is harder than writing a novel with 40,000 words.

Don’t worry about length. Just write the best story you can in as many words as it takes.

#HappyReading,

Jessica
